Magic Self-Inflating Balloon

Supplies:

• Empty Bottle
• Vinegar
• Baking Soda
• Deflated Balloons
• Funnel

Instructions:

1. A funnel will be your best friend in this experiment.  First use the funnel to pour vinegar into an empty bottle.
2. Now rinse and dry the funnel so you can use it again.
3. Funnel baking soda into the bottle.  It should start bubbling now so get ready.
4. Quickly place the mouth of the balloon around the bottle opening and watch as the balloon magically inflates before your eyes.

The Science Behind the Experiment: 

When vinegar and baking soda meet it causes a chemical reaction creating a gas called carbon dioxide. The gas gets very excited and tries to spread out, building up enough gas from the carbon dioxide to blow air in your balloon!
