Magic Self-Inflating Balloon
- Empty Bottle
- Baking Soda
- Deflated Balloons
- A funnel will be your best friend in this experiment. First use the funnel to pour vinegar into an empty bottle.
- Now rinse and dry the funnel so you can use it again.
- Funnel baking soda into the bottle. It should start bubbling now so get ready.
- Quickly place the mouth of the balloon around the bottle opening and watch as the balloon magically inflates before your eyes.
The Science Behind the Experiment:
When vinegar and baking soda meet it causes a chemical reaction creating a gas called carbon dioxide. The gas gets very excited and tries to spread out, building up enough gas from the carbon dioxide to blow air in your balloon!
